I know a secret. You want your daily morning smoothie to taste like a milkshake. You want the sensation that it coats your mouth and throat with creamy goodness. It's so creamy, that you have to swallow a second time and possibly drink some water so your milkshake-healthy-smoothie finally leaves your mouth and warms your stomach. And then that velvety sensation makes you want to take another sip.
Here is my secret to making your (perhaps) less-than palatable green drink one ounce more delicious.
Step 1: use a food processor. I have never successfully used a blender to make a smoothie, let alone a delicious one. A vitamix might work, but a food processor is going to be your best tool here.
Step 2: place all powders, nut butters, and produce in the bottom of the food processor. Coconut or olive oil is a great addition here. If you are using a lot of produce, leave the most juicy ones out, since they will mess up the magic.
Step 3 (and this is important!): Add one square of dark chocolate (if you are doing a sugar detox or candida diet, you can use 100% cacao.)
Step 4: Turn on the food processor and process until the mixture becomes a paste or a ball.
Step 5: Add 1 cup of HOT beverage. Add tea, coffee, or hot water while the processor is running. Let it continue running until it is smooth.
Step 6: Add cold milk. Cold coconut milk, nut milk or dairy milk will thicken and cool it down. This is also the time to add some of that juicy produce you left out in step 2.

Some great tips to using a food processor for smoothies, sometime we forget that their are appliances other than blenders that can get the job done well! What I haven't done before is done the two step process of a hot beverage and then a cold one. I'll be giving that a go in the morning!
